The Legend of David Orbach
by Alex Klein.
Father of five children, the journalist David Orbach is also a poet, a musician, and regional commander for Jerusalem, Judea and Sameria in the field of Public Health.
His 5th disc "King of Blues" continues the story of the 4th disc, "Messanic Age" where David imagined that King David awakes after 3000 years and sings after 11/9/2001 "First we take Manhatten, then we take Bagdad and Babylon." That prophecy, recorded in 2001 was realized in 2003.
This time, for the new disc, "KIng of Blues" David meets the 'King of the Israeli Blues" Lazer Lloyd thanks to the editor in chief of Radio Moreshet, Dvorah Kitisis who wote an article about Lazer. But a good source of inspiration for David was his wife, Rachael Orbach who was the teacher of Avner Netanyahu. She wanted to analyze with her class David Orbach's songs and Rachael's orginal poems
Avner Netanyahu wanted to hear the song for Ariel Sharon and said "this is a song about Saddam Hussein, Yasser Arafat and Arik Sharon, written in 2001, and we know where they are now. Please, if your husband writes something about my father Bibi Netanyahu put him only with good people!
And the result is "Bibi Be Good," where David Orbach asks Rabbi Akiva if he hates the Romans, and Rabbi Akiva tells David "Don't speak of hate, speak of love, love your neighbor as yourself ".
Then David meets Menachem Begin z"l who jumps from the Altalena and says "We have to prevent at all cost a war between the Jews".
At the end, David Orbach, who was nominated Rabbi of the Likud in 2008, speaks to Avner's father, Benjamin Netanyahu,
Most of the Blues in "King of Blues" are prayers like David, Your Servant, which is about the reestablsihment of King David's throne and the rebuilding of Jerusalem.
The roots of Blues music are in the Gospel with prayers like "When we were slaves in Egypt, let my people go." The black slaves identified themselves with the Hebrew slaves in Egypt.
"This is a proof of the universality of the Hebrew Faith. and how the power of Faith and the Joy of music can lead to liberation. Geulah.", told me David.
Like Bob Dylan, David Orbach likes to tell blues stories. For instance, "Hatchalat Hageulah," is the story of David's band which was sent to Haifa in the summer of 2006 to sing for the Arabs and Jewish children in the shelters, when thousands of Katiusha missles were falling down in Northern Israel.
David asked the Chief Rabbi of Israel Rabbi Avraham Shapira, if he can sing Aaron Razel's anthem Hygia Zman HaGeula, in the middle of the war. The Chief Rabbi told David, "It is a poem from the Rabbi of Lubavitch, the religious Zionist rabbis say that the Geula began already. The liberation from the Muslim Imperialism, began on 28 Iyar 5727, June 1967, with the liberation of Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and the Golan. There is also a very sophisticated blues called Tel Aviv Blues for Yonatan Razel, and another song dedicated to the editor in chief of Radio Moreshet, Dvorah Kitsis, Shirat Dvora. Of course there is instrumental music, with David and Lazer Lloyd playing a tribute to Eric Clapton. Among the 18 jewels you will enjoy two Psalms written by King David himself. If I forget you Jerusalem, and Shiviti Hashem, which is at the beginning of the Shulchan Arouch. By the way, David got the prestigious medal of the Belgian Government in Classical guitar and he's working already with the Maestro Gabriel Hasson about a new Disc of classical guitar, including a concerto for guitar.
